GitHub’s Atom text editor now lets developers collaborate on code in real-time

Technology

GitHub’s Atom text editor is an effective open-source choice for coders, alongside cross-platform favorites like Sublime Text. but if it’s not already your weapon of choice, you may need to provide it a go now that it supports real-time collaboration.

The latest Teletype feature allows you to team up with fellow developers on a project and write or edit code together at the same time, with individual cursors and 0 latency.

GitHub indicates that you can ready to use your own key bindings, packages, & themes when working with the Teletype, thus you won’t feel like you’re using somebody else’s IDE. the company specifies that your data is piped through encrypted peer-to-peer connections, so you shouldn’t need to worry about anyone snooping on your code.

It is still in beta, so it does not include some specific features that will create collaboration easier, sort of a chat window so you’ll discuss changes and additions together with your team within the same app. Hopefully, this kind of functionality is added in the future.

With the introduction of the Teletype and the newly-added integration with Git & GitHub, Atom is shaping up to be a good choice for developers of various disciplines. you’ll give it a try by grabbing the installer from here, along with the Teletype package from this page.
