Game developer Niantic has become a widely known name since it released Pokémon go to huge popularity last summer. sadly, the game has recently seen a rather sharp decline in its active user community within the past year and a half. maybe that explains the company’s recent acquisition of a relatively unknown startup, Evertoon, that makes an app for making animations with customized avatars. “Today i’m excited to announce that we’ve acquired the Evertoon team,” wrote Niantic boss John Hanke, “who bring with them a wealth of talent and experience in mobile product, tools for creativity, and community building.”
It’s that last bit that the Evertoon team targeted on in a farewell message announce on its web site. the company says that it’ll be adding a “social platform” to Niantic’s games, including Pokémon Go, Ingress and “future titles.” the current Evertoon app can go offline and remove access to community options as of Nov 30th. Still, if you grab the newest version of the iOS app currently, you’ll still create videos on your phone in offline mode. Evertoon simply released 60 new animations and thirteen clothing things as a thank you/goodbye present.
