Technology

Getting WiFi on all corner of your home is a mesh network made very easy these days. Which uses a special router and individual nodes that can configure themselves. A company’s like Samsung, ASUS, and Netgear all produce the kits of the different price that can help you create one in your own home. But you usually have to buy a completely new set of devices to make it work. Now, ASUS is offering AiMesh, a system that uses your current ASUS routers to build a mesh network without costing additional hardware.

Since you are using routers that you already have to create a mesh network. You can decide which ones are the primary and which will act as nodes. You just find the router with the best abilities, drop it in a central location, and then manage the built-in software to configure the network. AiMesh is available as an open firmware update, that adds support for the protocol to your router. At present, the ASUS RT-AC88U, RT-AC68U, RT-AC86U and the RT-AC3100 routers can handle the update. With a few more in beta testing. The company plans to roll out more updates for its routers later this year. This includes the new mesh-centric Lyra system.
