Speedtest shows global internet speeds increased more than 30 % in 2017

While Google and Netflix both own new speed tests on offer. Ookla’s Speedtest is still the grandaddy of them all. Last August. It started the Speedtest Global Index, a tool that surfaces internet speeds around the world. Helping you see how your country or region measures up. Speedtest is improving its approach with the introduction of Global Speed, a tool that shows the average internet speed of the entire connected world.

Internet download speeds increased more than 30 % this year for both fixed broadband and mobile connections as compared to a year earlier. According to new data from Ookla (internet speedtest company). That makes the average download speed 40 Mb per second for broadband and 20 Mbps for mobile.

Growth was driven by network developments in many countries. Including Australia, India, and Norway, Its broadband speed grew by 77% this year, making it the most advanced in the world’s largest. It still ranks 76th out of all countries, with an average broadband download speed of 18.82 Mbps.

Note that the U.S. ranks 44th in mobile download speeds, at 26.32 Mbps. Rankings and averages are based on Nov 2017 data, and are compared with data from Nov 2016.
